Pet Loss Resources

“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains un-awakened.”

Anatole France

A pet is a member of the family. They bring companionship, fun, and joy to our lives. We know that your pet is an important part of your life and that this time is not easy, it can be painful and difficult to say goodbye to a pet. It’s hard to make the decision to let a pet go, but it can be for the best and can prevent unnecessary suffering. Our team understands the experience you are facing and is here to support and help. Saying goodbye will never be an easy process. Our team wants to make it as easy as we possibly can. At Marina Bay Animal Hospital, we treat your pet like part of the family. They are part of our family too.

When it comes to facing this decision for your pet, our goal is to provide you with all of the resources you need to make a confident and informed decision that you and your family can be comfortable with. We are proud to partner with Fond Memories. Fond Memories provides comprehensive and compassionate cemetery and cremation services for Houston and its surrounding communities. They are family-owned and operated out of Conroe, Texas since 1993. Their team provides many resources to help make this process as seamless and easy for your family as possible. Along with the help of Fond Memories, we have tailored a package for individual cremation with your pet’s ashes returned in a cedar urn with a brass nameplate, certificate, and a clay paw impression.

Losing a pet is one of the most difficult things a person can experience. With our team by your side, you don’t have to face it alone. We understand though that you may like continued support, once you leave our office. We partner with Fond Memories, who proudly offer the Pet Compassion Careline, a 24 hour, 7 days a week, pet grief support line. Here, pet owners can speak confidentially with experienced professional counselors. This number is provided to every client who utilizes Fond Memories cremation services through Marina Bay Animal Hospital.

Fond Memories offers a Coping With the Loss of a Companion Animal Guide to help you and your family with the grieving process. This guide can be accessed here.

Helping Children Cope With Pet Loss

The loss of a pet is an emotional experience. For children, these emotions can be especially complicated and difficult to comprehend. We recommend explaining the process in an honest and relatable way, appropriate for their age level. There are many resources to help with this discussion and transition available, here are some helpful links:

When a Pet Dies, KidsHealth

Children and Pet Loss, The Association for Pet Los and Bereavement

Helping Children Cope with the Serious Illness or Death of a Companion Animal, Ohio State University

Additionally, we are proud to serve the author of Don’t Say Goodbye Just Say See You! Patricia A Brill, Ph.D., a longtime client of our hospital, has composed a reassuring children’s book to help explain the process and the emotions associated from a comforting perspective. Don’t Say Goodbye Just Say See You! can be found on Amazon. In addition, Patricia A Brill, Ph.D. has a library of children’s books to help explain many topics from rescue to surgery, cancer, and even COVID.
