Animal Wellness Center – Examinations

Taking your pet to the veterinarian for a wellness exam every 6 months is the first step against many diseases and conditions. Annual and Semi-annual exams are vital because pets age much faster than humans. By the time they are 4-5 years old, most pets are considered middle-aged; and most dogs, especially large breed dogs, are thought to be seniors by the age of 7. Since pets can age so quickly, a multitude of health problems can occur within a six-month period.? During a typical, bi-annual wellness exam, your doctor will assess the following on your pet:

  • Observe the patient behavior.
  • Listen to the heart.
  • Listen to the Lungs.
  • Check central nervous center.
  • Check joints and mobility.
  • Palpate the abdomen for painful areas or abnormalities.
  • Check urinary and reproductive systems.
  • Eye exam for cataract or ocular issues.
  • Check ears.
  • Dental and oral examination.
  • Check skin and coat condition.
  • Physical exam for abnormal lumps or bumps.
  • Weight check and body condition.

Vaccinations

Maintaining a regular vaccination schedule is essential. Vaccines are an easy way to keep your pet healthy. We follow federal regulations as well as AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) recommendations for vaccinating all our patients. Vaccination schedules may be tailored based on your pet’s medical history and the doctor’s findings.? Typical vaccines for an adult pet are as follows:

Canines:

  • DHP
  • Parvovirus
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella (oral, intranasal or injectable)

Felines:

  • FVRCP
  • Leukemia
  • Rabies

Optional vaccinations may include CIV, rattlesnake, leptospirosis, etc. Please consult your doctor on what vaccines are appropriate for your pet.

Microchipping

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We use HomeAgain microchips that can be easily placed while your pet is here for any routine appointment! By microchipping your pet, you help improve the chance that they are reunited with your family should they ever attempt to make the great escape!

Nutrition and Diets

One of the simplest and most helpful things an owner can do for their pet is feed it right. Studies have indicated that a properly balanced diet can extend the life expectancy of your pet for up to 2 years. Proper nutrition makes a huge difference and is a key element of overall wellness. We work with you to find a balanced diet that is right for your pet. Ask your doctor for recommendations at your next exam.

Diets that we carry are:

  • Hills Science Diet
  • Hills Prescription Diet
  • Royal Canin
  • Purina Veterinary Diet

Euthanasia Services

Saying goodbye to a long-time friend is difficult and painful. We work with clients to ensure their pet?s comfort and dignity. Among other options, we offer private cremation for your beloved pet, as well as return of the ashes in an urn with an engraved nameplate and a clay paw impression.
